These Homes Save Lives…
Illness, desperation and disease all are products of poverty, especially where war and corruption have run rampant. So many families are in need of a place of refuge.
This photo shows an example of the difference secure housing can make. The ‘before’ photo was where an elderly woman lived with her great grandson. It was literally falling down around them, but they had no funds and no way to repair it. The ‘after’ photo is their new home. What a witness of God’s love to be able to provide safe shelter!
Each home costs approximately $6,500. (An additional $1,000-$1,500 may be needed for a latrine, kitchen or furniture, depending on the situation).
How We Build Our Homes…
After doing extensive research on many building processes, we chose to use the FinnBuild method for our homes. This is a build-as-you-go process and requires no bricks to be made in advance. The FinnBuilder form is simple to use, highly portable, and works extremely well with little waste and very little finishing work. The final product is very strong and of good quality. It uses more cement, but with less finishing work, the cost is not much higher than traditional local brick structures. We have been very excited with the results that we experienced with the FinnBuild process. This process has been a winner of the All Africa Innovative Housing Competition run by the South African Government, the NHBRC and ABSA Bank. We are the first to be using it in the Fort Portal area, and couldn’t be happier!

Monica’s Blessing
This family of five lived in this one tiny, dilapidated room. After losing her job, Monica, a single mom was struggling greatly trying to care for her children. Now, they have secure housing and all of the kids are attending school due to loving sponsors! Monica is learning a trade through our EMPOWER program as well.
